When the change-over to mozilla.com was made, the /support/* pages were missed in all the added redirections. Since all the support pages are on mozilla.com, all the mozilla.org ones need to redirect there. This also means http://www.mozilla.org/support/index.html needs to be updated to change the Firefox/Thunderbird links to go to mozilla.com.
Having both www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/ and www.mozilla.com/support/firefox/ is beginning to cause problems (see bug 263246). Assigning to pkim as per rebron@IRC. :)

We have no current plans on the marketing team here at MoCo to migrate all the support content for Firefox and Thunderbird to mozilla.com for the following reasons: 1) Redirecting requests for existing support pages on mozilla.org is a significant undertaking. It's not simply moving the support content from .org to .com, it's also planning and implementing redirects for previously hosted support pages on .org to ensure links inbound to the .org support pages do not 404, either from external sites or internally within mozilla.org. 2) The support content on mozilla.org is for the most part created and maintained by project members, not by MoCo - we looked at this when we launched mozilla.com on 11/29/05 and felt that given the ownership of support content by the broader Mozilla community it made more sense to keep the support content on mozilla.org. If it makes more sense to go through and migrate the support content from .org to .com, and it's a critical priority, we can start to look at the scope of work. But to clarify there is no near term plan to do so from my end. Thanks, Paul

But to clarify there is no near term plan to do so from my end. Then why are all the support pages already on www.mozilla.com? It's really bad to have two copies of everything. If the pages are to remain on www.mozilla.org, the www.mozilla.com ones should probably be removed. Having duplicate copies of the same pages is just going to confuse people.

I didn't realize this was the case Reed - I'll look into what we've actually got up on mozilla.com/support with our web designer and do agree that having dupes is not the right way to offer support content.
Something peculiar is going on - I don't have the .com/support/firefox/ files in my local copy, and they seem to have been removed from CVS. See: http://cvs-www.mozilla.org/webtools/bonsai/cvslog.cgi?file=mozilla-com/src/support/firefox/index.html&rev=&root=/cvsroot/ I suspect some files were removed from the /src directories but didn't get removed from the /dest dir by the build scripts for some reason. Might be another bug - I'll investigate.

dbaron has checked in a redirect for .com/support/* Marking as FIXED. The issue of files sticking around in /dest on the website after being removed from CVS is being tracked on bug #326535

(In reply to comment #6) > dbaron has checked in a redirect for .com/support/* http://www.mozilla.com/support/firefox/ redirects fine http://www.mozilla.com/support/firefox/menu.html doesn't... Some people are already linking to specific files. Would it be possible to use something like mod_rewrite to change the .com to .org?
They both redirect fine for me, as they should. You probably just have the page cached.
