In search box, icon should show which search engine is currently selected.

Safari use same magnifying icon for all option, Camino mimics this, but Safari (without plugins or extensions) cannot select engine so this way works fine. In contrast, Camino behave as Firefox (at least Google Image is included in default configuration) and user won't know which last engine they selected by magnifying icon.

Reproducible: Always
By default, I think this should be wontfixed.

That said, if we ever include a search engine editor in the vanilla install, this might be good to include.
One of the serious usability problems with using icons for search engines that the Fx devs have noted is that users don't realize that there are multiple search engines available--unlike Camino, where we have the downward-arrow on the glass to indicate this.

I also think that the search engine icons are often quite ugly and will mar our sleek and refined UI.

My vote is also for WONTFIX.
WONTFIX per discussions on IRC.

Firefox also has small downward-arrow over search engine icon, so this reason is not true.

Even I agree with your point that most of icons are ugly, I still choose "function" reason over "beauty".

I agree with function over beauty, and not everything has to be black and white - I was always a fan of letting people decide for themselves if they want a particular behavior or not, but oh well... Beggars can't be choosers. :)

I'm sorry for the duplicates Mr. Lawson, I did in fact search, but through stupidity and inexperience could not find what I was looking for.
