The Mail/News Account settings item is not available in Message compose windows,
but that is where you wind up after some errors, such as missing SMTP server,
that tell you to change the account settings. It would be easier to find what
you need if it was in the active window's menus.
brade said the same thing recently :-)
The Account Setup dlg is planned to be merged with prefs soon so I don't think
alecf or ducarroz want to add the menu item to the compose window at this time.
I'll let alecf comment.
alec - I can't find the bug that tracks merging account setup dlg with prefs.

Marking this dup of 33266 since they're the same fix.

Steve, we may need to reopen this bug if the acct mgr/prefs item we talked about
yesterday holds true.
heads-up Jennifer - if this is the case, you'll have to change/add teh Account
Manager to menu items besides 3-pane window.

Bug# 33266 requests that Account Settings be merged into Preferences and is
marked M20. This probably means that to access Account Settings you'll have to
select Edit|Mail/News Account Settings for this release. For this
reason I don't see this as a duplicate of 33266.
Can we still have access to Account Settings through the New Message Compose
window?

I'm willing to leave this at M18 for now, but it's probably destined for M20.
Target Milestone: --- → M18
I would recommend that this make it into the product. I've gotten feedback from
many Netscape folks now that they can't find where to change their Account
Settings. If internal people are having trouble, other folks are gonna have a
heck of a time! It has even been suggested that this menu item belong in the
Edit menu (above Preferences) of each component (or we need to merge Account
Settings into Prefs as originally planned).

I am one of these engineers who has been confused by the new UI. Being used to
changing Mail/News account settings in a single prefs dialog, I couldn't find
where to set outgoing mail server in the new UI when composing a mail message.
The separate "Mail/News Account Settings" menu item should be in at lease
Message Composer's Edit menu. I don't know if it's necessary in every Edit menu,
I'd prefer integrating into the main prefs windows or at least have a button on
the main "Mail News" panel to access the new mail account prefs.

Based on Jen's comments, it sounds like this should be a Dogfood item. If
internal folks are having problems finding this command, then we should get it
on the PDT's radar. Marking Dogfood and creating 3 more dogfood bugs: one for
Composer, Address Book, and Browser. This bug serves as the one for Mail/Compose
only. I expect that including it in Composer would be an M20, but getting it
into the Mail/Compose window should be dogfood/nsbeta2.

Scratch creating a bug for Composer. However, AB (Bug #40710), and Browser (Bug
#40712) bugs created.

I put my sarcastic comments about making this dogfood in a different bug.
I thought dogfood was for features that would prevent you from using the
product. Although I highly agree that this is a useful feature, having wanted
to do this myself a couple of times, I don't think this is something that people
will be wanting to do every time they run mail. If it is, I imagine it's
because they are either in development or QA testing different account setting
son messenger compose. I would think the average person wouldn't need to do
this as often as I would thing the reason for dogfood would require.
Anyway, I'm not saying we shouldn't do this. I'd like to see this avoid M20
status, but I'm not sure this is dogfood.

Putting on [nsbeta2+][dogfood-] radar. Does not need a fix ASAP for daily work,
but we should fix this for beta2.

Changing Component from "Mail News Front End" to "Composition".
Component: Mail Window Front End → Composition

note that this can be pretty easily moved in by pulling in accountUtils.js -
that has all the account-related stuff like bringing up the wizard, opening
the account manager, etc.
