User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.2) Gecko/20060308 Firefox/1.5.0.2
Build Identifier: version 1.5.0.2 (20060308)
When a mail message contains '--' on a single line, and the user attempts to reply to this message with quoting turned on, the compose message window start a new mail with part of the original before the '--' line.
This has been problematic when replying to pine users who use a .signature file, as the line '--' is place before the signature, which itself is sometimes place before prior quoted discussion. Hence, the preceeding message history is missing from the newly composed message.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.receive a message including the '--' line somewhere in the middle.
2.Reply to this message with automatic quoting turned on
Actual Results:
compose new message window only quotes the part of the original message above the '-' line
Expected Results:
full message should be quoted, including '--' line, signature, and prior message history
I also tested this on Mac thunderbird 1.5.0.2 (20060329) with the same results.

Stripping the sig is by design. Anyone using a standard sig separator like
that should also be placing their sig at the end of the message, not between their text and the quoted text from below. It is for this reason that the combination of "start my reply above the quote" plus "place my signature below my reply" is "not recommended" -- altho TB/Seamonkey/Mozilla handles this case by not using the standard sig separator.
See bug 54570. This bug is either Invalid, or a dupe of that one.
