Build Identifier: Thunderbird 1.5.0.2 english
The "Wrap text to fit window width" option in Thunderbird doesn't work.
It does not matter if it's checked or unchecked - Thunderbird will always do wordwrapping.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go Tools -> Options -> Display -> Formatting
2. Set "Wrap text to fit window width" to off by unchecking the box
3. Write a email or newsmessage with a very wide width (you will need to set the composing wordwrap to something large to do this - try 300) and post a message to a test group or email yourself the message
Actual Results:
The message will display with wordwrapping
Expected Results:
The message would display WITHOUT wordwrapping
Currently the only way to see the message without wordwrapping is to use View -> Message Source (CTRL + U)

See this as well (Fx 1.5.0.2, WinXP). Confirming.
Is this also present for SeaMonkey / Mozilla? Might need to be re-routed.

The option does work, but only for text/plain messages that have been sent with format=flowed turned off. f=f mail always reflows to window width -- that's the purpose for which it was designed; and it's turned on by default because, on balance, it's a better way to present mail.
See bug 168420 for more on format=flowed, there's a FAQ there.

Severity: minor → S4
As of Thunderbird 143, there is no such setting, and many messages require back-and-forth horozontal scrolling for each line; depending on your scrolling tools, this can break vertical scrolling.
Maube there should be an option for Resolved: Now Broken in Reverse.
