User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686 (x86_64); en-US; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060622 Transmeta/1.5.0.4-2TMTA Firefox/1.5.0.4
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686 (x86_64); en-US; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060622 Transmeta/1.5.0.4-2TMTA Firefox/1.5.0.4
Exactly the same as bug #325155 (please read), except with a newer version of Firefox. Bug #325155 was closed as "WORKSFORME".
It is doing this on every Linux 2.6.14 x86_64 workstation in our company (which is over scores of machines). I'm not sure if the problem occurs on other builds of Linux. We didn't have the problem with Firefox 1.0.7 on this same version of Linux (we just recently upgraded Firefox).
Please revisit this issue as it is definitely present in 1.5.0.4, at least in out environment.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Type two equal-length lines of text into an edit field.
2. Cursor to the middle of the topmost sentence.
3. Cursor down.
Actual Results:
The cursor hops to the beginning of the line.
Expected Results:
The cursor should stay where it is horizontally, but move down one line.
For what it's worth:... We are using the CentOS 4.3 repackage of RHEL4. This problem has been observed under both GNOME & KDE.
I have this problem as well, with Firefox 1.5.0.5 and Thunderbird 1.5.0.5 (should I file a seperate Thunderbird bug?). I can tell you it's very annoying...
I started noticing this a while ago, but I don't know exactly when it started or what caused it. I can't imagine it has always been like this, because I would have noticed.
My system:
Gentoo Linux x86
C(XX)FLAGS: "-O3 -march=i686 -mtune=athlon-xp -pipe -msse -msse2 -m3dnow -mfpmath=sse"
Kernel: 2.6.17
GCC: 3.4.6
Glibc: 2.3.6
KDE: 3.5.2
Xorg: 7.0
I can confirm the problem with Thunderbird version 1.5.0.4 (20060723)

Reporter, do you still see this problem with the latest Firefox 2? If not, can you please close this bug as WORKSFORME. Thanks!

Version: unspecified → 1.5.0.x Branch
I'm not the reporter, but I noticed that it was fixed in Firefox 2 some time ago. However, Thunderbird 2.0 still has it. Is that likely going to be fixed in a future release when Thunderbird will make use of the new shared code (assuming there is some kind of shared code base other than copy paste)?
This might sound strange, but I recall this bug being fixed in 2.0.0.0 and resurfacing at some later re-installation of my distribution and of Thunderbird.
Unfortunately I no longer have the same setup and software which exhibited the fix.
