Else where it is simply shown as plain text in the browser window when references to the attachment are clicked on Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Insert URL into AttachURL field 2. Return to eshowbug.cgi page 3. click on either "created attachment" text in comments field or text in attachment table Actual Results: the URL is displayed as plain text in the browser Expected Results: Well according to the release notes:- Attach URLs ----------- Instead of attaching a file, you can now also attach a URL to a bug. This will show up just like an attachment on show_bug.cgi, but when you click on it, it will take you to the URL.

I ran into this earlier myself and was confused in the same way. I think that by clicking the attachment link in the table it should redirect me to the URL rather than open a page with the URL in plain text and unclickable.

No. It is so by design. We want to let the user see the URL before being redirected to it. For security reasons.

Whilst it may be so by design, it is not how most people would interpret the release notes line which states:- "...but when you click on it, it will take you to the URL." It doesn't take you to the URL. It displays the path of the URL which is very different. If for security reasons this is deemed necessary, then at the very least the displayed URL should be clickable! Since one can always autolinkify URLs in comments anyway, I'm beginning to wonder what the point of this feature is. I though it might enable a more user friendly display of the links purpose, rather than the actual link text.

See bug 149504 comment 23 about URLs not being clickable. Unless joel and I change our mind, this bug will probably remain as "won't fix".
