The search bar by default is too narrow. I think you should consider making it about 50% wider by default. User testing has shown the bigger the search box, the more people search with it ;-)
Sure, but we're not getting ad revenue from ours... ;) Seriously though, I don't see a problem with this.
Target Milestone: --- → Camino1.1
*shrug* sure. the current default was just a random number we picked anyway i think.
Revenue streams aside, it depends on how much you think of the search box as an efficiency aid. If people are typing longer and longer queries as the experience of the average Internet user rises, being able to see all of that term in the search box without having to click-scroll it is useful ;-)
Is the splitter (resize) widget not obvious? Another thing to consider is how long ago the last 800x600 iBooks shipped...the default size is probably pretty good for the default toolbar config on that size LCD (especially if those users don't full-screen Camino; I'm not even sure what our default window size is). If all 800x600 iBooks are 5 years old, then ignore that ;)
Created attachment 241771 [details] [diff] [review] fix 50% wider, as requested. Also fixes a typo in the min-width constant.
