Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1b2) Gecko/20060820 BonEcho/2.0b2
Build Identifier: version 1.5.0.5 (20060719)

The phishing filter rarely flags the correct emails. It often lets real phishing emails through, while reporting legitimate mail as a scam.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Receive mail
2.
3.

Actual Results:
Phishing filter flags email as a scam incorrectly.

Expected Results:
Phishing filter incorrectly flagged email as a scam

My idea for fixing the phishing filter in Thunderbird is to piggyback over the working phishing filter in Firefox 2.0, which usually flags sites correctly. Thunderbird should check the URLs of incoming emails against the same list as Firefox 2.0, and if a match is made against a reported phishing site, flag the email as a potential phishing email. I have a feeling this would work much better than the current heuristics. You could add options to check URLs against a local list or against Google, just like Firefox 2.0.
