User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.8.0.6) Gecko/20060728 Firefox/1.5.0.6
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.8.0.6) Gecko/20060728 Firefox/1.5.0.6

Since I upgraded to Firefox V1.5.0.6 I get a lot of error messages re. the unability to establish an encrypted connection. There are two error messages coming again and again. The following texts are translated from the German texts I see to English ones by me. The almost surely don't match the original texts in English:

1. Error when trying to establish an encrypted connection. Error code: -5981

2. Error when trying to verify certificate of [web-site] by OCSP - invalid or unknown answer. Error code: -8073

It seems to me as if this is a timeout problem, since these messages pop up very fast after I enter some https URL. It doesn't matter which URL I choose. These messages appear with every https URL I use.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
Just look at some https URL It will happen quite soon.
Actual Results:
Either one of these two error messages:

1. Error when trying to establish an encrypted connection. Error code: -5981

2. Error when trying to verify certificate of [web-site] by OCSP - invalid or unknown answer. Error code: -8073

Expected Results:
No error messages

I can provide you with a pcap file of a session where error 1 happened.
I did not get any of these error messages with previous versions of Firefox. I have been using it since V1.0
OK, I just found out that this bug seems to be related to the NoScript plugin that I use. As soon as I switch it off the error messages disappear.

Sorry for bothering you.

Regards,
Frank
OK, I'll have to reopen this bug again. It still happens, just not so often. It seems that NoScript aggravates the problem but is not the cause. I have it uninstalled and it happened again. It just took a lot longer.
I forgot to describe the environment FF runs in:

- Windows XP SP2 with all patches applied
- An 802.11g WLAN connection to an DSL router which is a bit slow.

I guess the WLAN connection plays a role here as the effect does not occur on my workplace machine that has an ethernet connection to the internet. Still I did not get these errors with FF version before V1.5.0.5 and .6.

Another bug report citing negative decimal error numbers.

I don't see any browser error described here.
The complaints are:
a) server refused connection request, and
b) OCSP responder (server) not responding,
neither of which is a browser fault.

It appears that the single most-used OCSP responder in the world is so
swamped that it is not able to answer TCP connection requests within 20
seconds. This is not a browser fault. Workaround: disable OCSP in prefs.
