If I select a collection of text and images together in a Mozilla app and copy it, when I paste in another app only the text is pasted. No images are pasted. Broken on Mac OS X, but works on Windows. I was using the Google homepage (classic home) to test this. Select the Google logo image and the word "Web" right underneath it. Copy and paste it into another app. No images, just text. Tested on FF 2.0rc2, but is also a bug in FF 1.5.
I thought I'd seen a dupe of this, but all I can find now is bug 41480 (which is close but not quite the same).
copy a rtf/html selection from a web page in the latest build (3.0a4pre), and paste that selection into some other OSX application. only plain text is pasted. paste fails to be rtf/html when pasted into mail.app, textedit, tex-edit plus. paste works correctly when pasting into a gmail.com compose window in firefox. paste works correctly from safari to mail.app, textedit, tex-edit plus. paste does not work correctly when pasting from firefox to a gmail.com compose window in safari. therefore, it seems all rtf/html formatting is lost when a copy is made and another application is used. i am using the latest build, fresh install, new profile, no extensions, OSX 10.4.8.

(I posted the dupe ... sorry, I *did* search) 1. This bug is new in FF 3, to see desired behavior, perform same tests in FF 2 where it was working fine. 2. Of course not all Mac applications will chose the html-rtf version of data copied to the clipboard. Pasting into Safari or TextEdit may not be a good test ... I would suggest sticking with Thunderbird as the target app for the Paste when testing, because Thunderbird does select html-rtf formatting for a Paste if that format is available on the clipboard. Pasting copied webpage content into Tbird works fine if using FF 2 (i.e., pastes as html unless one chooses Paste Without Formatting in Tbird); Pasting copied page content from FF3 into Tbird pastes ONLY plain text. 3. I'm not a programmer but it just seems that FF3 is missing the code that sends an html version as well as a plaintext version to the clipboard.
If anyone has a linux box handy it might be worth testing for this bug on that platform.
I am using TB 2.0.0.16 and FF 3.01 on Mac OS X tiger latest. I can not paste images into TB no matter the source since upgrading to FF 3. If I select and copy all of a web page, only the text is pasted into the HTML TB Compose window. Very frustrating.

what version was this fixed in? I'm updated to the latest and it still doesn't work. thanks.
(In reply to comment #10) > what version was this fixed in? I'm updated to the latest and it still doesn't > work. thanks. i meant to say: "About Mozilla Firefox..." shows -- Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10.4; en-US; rv:1.9.0.10) Gecko/2009042315 Firefox/3.0.10
This will be fixed in Firefox 3.5.
TY. then I guess even the 3.1 Beta won't help meanwhile :-( ... meanwhile thanks very much for fixing it in the future, if I still have a PPC when 3.5 comes out the fix will be most welcome.
It is not fixed. Just now I installed FF 3.5 beta 4 (sorry about above comment, the last time I checked I could swear the Beta was for version 3.1) and if a Select All on a web page that has text, tables, graphics, then paste into a Thunderbird message ONLY THE TEXT IS PASTED. With Firefox 2, when I selected all on a web page and pasted into a T-bird message the email looked just like the web page (minus any background color). So in what way is this fixed? thanks
It works fine with Fx 3.4b4 pasting into Mail and TextEdit, among other apps. Comment 14 (and I guess comment 6-8) sounds like a regression (not this bug, anyway) that should be filed separately; that's a problem that apparently developed between Firefox 2 and Fx 3 specifically related to copying and pasting between Firefox and Thunderbird, not between Fx/Tb and other apps, which is what this bug was about.
(In reply to comment #15) > It works fine with Fx 3.4b4 pasting into Mail and TextEdit, among other apps. ah. I had only ever had any luck pasting into Thunderbird. I don't use Mail. I need styled pasting into Thunderbird. Should I make a separate bug?
