Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20060910 SeaMonkey/1.0.5 Build Identifier: currently trying: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20060910 SeaMonkey/1.0.5 When I click a download link with the left mouse button, a dialog appears with three choices: 1. Open with the default application. 2. Open with ... 3. Save to disk. For instance, I choose to save the file. The file chooser/selector appears with the name of the file. I look at the name of the file and decide not to download it (already have this version, file name seems similar to malicious software, file size is too large, etc.). In the meantime, the file is being already downloaded and resides in the cache. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Click a link to a file that cannot be rendered by Mozilla (e.g. a movie file, pdf, zip, etc.) 2. Choose to save the file. 3. Wait a few seconds (time depends on the file size and on the bandwidth of your internet connection). 3. Do not save it. Cancel saving. 4. Look at your cache and the provider's bill. Actual Results: The Mozilla/Firefox/Seamonkey starts downloading in the background before you decide where to save the file. Expected Results: The Mozilla/Firefox/Seamonkey should start downloading the file only after I decide where to save the file if at all necessary. Unauthorized background downloading is not only traffic-consuming but also may have associated security complications since the unwanted files are being downloaded onto the client computer without a user acknoledgement. The user is unaware the unneeded files are downloaded to the cache.
