User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4 when I click on a file url for download, download manager show me a dialog box that what am I to do, Save file or open file, If i want to wait and open new tab and continue my browsing without pressing each 'save' or 'cancel' button, the file that I not permit to it for download and is holded, automatically start downloading by download manager. It is very important for low bandwith users(such modem users 21K-56K) that browser don't download any file before permit of user. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. press link of any file so download manager ask you for saving or opening or canceling. 2. don't answer to this dialog window but don't close it, and continue browsing. 3. after some minutes bring to front this window and permit it for saving, you then see download manager complete progress bar suddenly near 30 or 40 percent, it is related to file size but i told an sample! Actual Results: during my brosing when I hang the dialog window , my bandwith is too slow because download manager automatically start download. Expected Results: I expect that download manager wait until I response to it what am I doing, then download manager go ahead.
I can confirm this behaviour, but this bug should be resolved INVALID. It is intended behaviour. You say it's a bandwidth problem, but how often do files automatically try and download themselves without you clicking a link to them? Not often. Also, the Save dialogue is quite obvious. When it arises, Cancel is always there to be clicked.

That's not a bug, that's a feature. This way, the download can already start a few seconds earlier. It's especially useful for modem users.

I must say it that when any download is in progress and I press 'pause' link for give bandwidth to andother important download , download manager don't pause it completely an continue downloading in background so when I 'resume' this paused download, I see that 20 or 30 percent is downloaded until now!

Product: Firefox → Toolkit
so.. is this "resolved wont fix" like, they are not going to change it. cause i will actually move to safari or another browser, cause i think this is a very bad feature, and should be fixed. or at least have a feature to turn it off. eg: in about:config
