360350 - "View > Threads > Unread" sorts and displays/threads wrong

I choose "View > Threads > Unread" to view a newsgroup or mail folder like I did in Netscape 4.80 until recently. But unlike NS 4.80, the posts in the threads seem to be sorted by date, with no regard to threading. They do get indented, but the connections are visibly wrong, and so is the sorting, of course - i.e. there's thread lines going right through text, starting in limbo or ending there.

I'll attach 2 screenshots to illustrate the problem.

Note that it does not matter which sort order I choose or what the value of mailnews.thread_pane_column_unthreads is.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a newsgroup or mail folder with unread messages
2. Choose "View > Threads > Threads with Unread", look at the message list pane.
3. Choose "View > Threads > Unread" (or "View > Messages > Unread"), look at the message list pane.

Actual Results:  
The result of step 2 looks as it should, the result of step 3 looks weird, even if the thread as a whole is unread (which in that case should not change how the thread is displayed).

Expected Results:  
Messages in threads sorted by their threading structure in their "References:"/"In-Reply-To:" headers, with lines starting at the bottom of a message icon and ending at the left end of a message's subject.

Note how the postings at 00:43 and 00:44 have swapped position, and how theres a line dangling in empty space, a vertical line connecting 2 message icons and a corner line starting somewhere in the subject above it.

View | Threads | Threads with Unread  works better, altho you can end up seeing a lot of already-read messages listed in long threads.
