360804 - Please make AMD64 (x86_64) a supported "Tier-1" platform

I would like to have official native 64-bit builds from Mozilla.com.
When I click "Download Firefox" at http://www.mozilla.com I get a 32-bit
build that must be run in 32-bit mode. My distribution (Kubuntu 6.10/x64_64)
did not include the necessary 32-bit libraries by default, so Firefox
failed to execute.
Yes, I know Ubuntu provides a native 64-bit build of Firefox, but I don't
want to use that.

We probably want to have a separate bug on actually shipping the builds from such a tinderbox.

Bug 359336 is related, it requests a x86_64 Linux Tinderbox build AFAICT.

This is not the same as my request, which is that x86_64 should be lifted
to "Tier-1" status with everything that usually goes with that, Tinderbox,
nightly builds (bug 247446) and, most importantly, release builds from
Mozilla.com (I should get a x86_64 native build by default.)

Could you please change the subject of bug 359336 so that it's clear
that it covers my request also, if that was your intention.

Ok... whether or not x86_64 is not entirely a build decision; that's more of a policy decision (which we're happy to weigh in on), but I think that's a drivers decision?

It basically affects whether or not x86_64-only breakage closes the tree. There's also a related "do we ship x86_64 builds by default"-decision in there.

Please feel free to pick a better assignee.

You should get 64-bit builds from your distro

We'll be setting up a 64-bit tinderboxen (that's bug 359336), but as for making it a tier-1 platform (with the associated tree-policy implications), that's not in the cards right now.
