User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; fr; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0
Build Identifier: Thunderbird version 2 beta 1 (20061121) PPC
When dragging and dropping a file on Thunderbird's icon in Mac OSX's dock, nothing happends. It would be a very useful feature to create automaticaly a new mail with the file attached this way (instead of having to first create a new message).
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Select one or more files
2.drag them on thunderbird's icon
3.
Actual Results:
Nothing
Expected Results:
Create a new email with the dropped files attached.
Theme : Thunderbird standard
Configuration : iBook G4 1Ghz, 1Gb RAM, Mac OS 10.4.5
Confirm.
(In Mail.app, this is possible.)
Mac OS X 10.3.9
version 2 beta 1 (20061123)

Beside the Adressbook integration this is the only thing that differs from Mail.app. Would be very nice to see this in a feature release!

It would be a great benefit if this feature could be implemented.
Or could this feature be solved with a droplet which launches Thunderbird?

1. It ought to work even if Thunderbird is already running.
2. It ought to work for **Thunderbird's** icon that's in the dock (not a droplet's).

And if you drop text on the icon (for example a URL from Firefox) it should open a compose message window with the "dropped" text in the body.

i just cant believe this .. this bug really is actually SEVEN years old?!!!!!!!!!
For everybody that still is affected by this bug - here is a lil workaround:
Drop the file on the dock icon while pressing alt+cmd
This will open the desired new mail windows with the files attached!
YAY
AND I VOTE FOR FINALLY FIXING THIS DAMN BUG!!!!!!! ;)

The Option+Command workaround doesn't always work. So I vote for this to be fixed ASAP.
