User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1
Build Identifier: 2.0.0.1
When visiting a page with an RSS feed declared for auto discovery, the feed is downloaded automatically, regardless of if it was requested, bookmarked, or subscribed to.
If the RSS feed is requested, it is downloaded again. The first download does not appear to be anything other than a redundant request.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Visit a page with a RSS feed declared for auto discovery
Actual Results:
RSS feed is downloaded
Expected Results:
Icon for RSS feed should be displayed, but RSS feed should only be downloaded if requested.

WFM: according to LiveHTTPHeaders, /topics/?type=rss isn't requested unless and until I click the icon in the addressbar. Do you, by any chance, have any extensions installed, or any nosy programs like Google Desktop that think they should poke their nose into everything you do?

Yep... I just disabled extensions one-by-one to figure out which one was causing the feed to be pulled.
The result, Google Firefox Toolbar.
Thanks Phil!
