User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20060911 Camino/1.0.3 Build Identifier: thunderbird 3.01a 22/01/07; Penelope 0.1a12.xpi if all mail windows are closed, message menu no longer opens a new mail window Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.select a mailbox from message menu - opens a new mailbox window ok 2.close all mailbox windows 3.select a mailbox from message menu - does not opens a new mailbox window Significant bug since the only way I have found to get out of the situation is to quit Thunderbird and restart it.
Correction! Mailbox menu no longer opens a new mail window, not Message menu...
Summary: if all mail windows are closed, message menu no longer opens a new mail window → if all mail windows are closed, mailbox menu no longer opens a new mail window

Yes, Mac versions of Eudora/Thunderbird are different than Windows and Linux. On non-Mac platforms closing that last window exits the application. Since the Mac's menu is not associated with any window, the application can remain. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not, and the easiest solution may just be to quit the app when the last window is closed.

That might be the easiest solution, but I don't think it is the correct solution. Other Mail clients (eg. Apple Mail and Entourage, and yes, classic Mac Eudora) allow you to close all windows but to keep the app running. From that state you can create new messages, etc. I think we should keep this bug open in hopes that someday we can get Eudora 8 to behave the way users expect. Matt
There is a way to "recover" from this without quitting and restarting Eudora -- click on the Dock icon and the "Mailboxes" window will re-open (correctly, at least at 8.0b7). See bug 387027 (I'd guess there'd be a common fix for both problems).

Penelope didn't see any activity in the vcs for the last 8 years, closing.
