* TITLE/SUMMARY
Flash animation displays as mostly gray, only bottom is displayed

* STEPS TO REPRODUCE
0) Launch Seamonkey
1) View http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/welcome/main.html (a page which
contains a Shockwave animation,
followed by a Flash animation.)

* RESULT
 - What happened

The top of the Flash animation is displayed as gray. Note that the page redraws
when the browser can't find
the embedded Shockwave animation used above the Flash animation.

Hand-editing the page source to remove the Shockwave animation results in the
Flash animation displaying
correctly, other than the left-most 10% or so.

 - What was expected

Animation display equivalent to 4.x.

* REGRESSION

 - Occurs On
        Mac OS Seamonkey (4.24.00 AM optimized build)

 - Doesn't Occur On
        Win32 Seamonkey (4.22.00 AM optimized build [NT 4, Service Pack 5])
        Communicator 4.7 RTM

* CONFIGURATIONS TESTED

- [Mac] Beige Power Mac G3 (266 MHz PowerPC 750), 96 MB RAM (VM on; 1 MB of VM
used), 1024x768 (Thousands of Colors), Mac OS 8.6

- [Win32] Vectra VL (233 MHz P2), 96 MB RAM, 800x600 (True Color), NT 4.0 SP5.

- [Linux] Vectra VL (266 MHz P2), 96 MB RAM. Red Hat Linux 6.0 (GNOME).

Recommending reconsideration of nsbeta2+ status on this bug.

The fix for Bug #41016 has altered this bug. The gray rectangle is gone, but
there are still issues pertaining to initial placement and updating. I am still
working on this, but I suspect that issues at the layout level including the
double buffered drawing, may need to be looked at. I have spoken to Marc Attinasi
about this, but no progress has been made. As Marc has his own issues to deal
with, I doubt a fix will be forthcoming in the required timeframe.

the plug-in starts and plays but it's just not positioned correctly. seems to
be the common problem among plug-ins on Mac
Status: NEW → ASSIGNED
Priority: P3 → P2
Raising to P2 as this is high profile backward compatibility with existing web
content. Also a high visibility web site. Given that, it's eligible for 9/21
checkin with mozilla reviewer approval. peterl, do you think you could fix by
9/21? If so, please accept as [nsbeta3+].
Nominating nsmac2. Would be bad to have Shockwave/Flash broken on the Mac.

This bug is very similar to Bug 32327 (general Mac Plugins) if not a dup.

I just got the patch for Bug 49743 (double buffering) and after I apply that
I'll have a better idea on what needs to be done for this bug.
Attached file very simple testcase
Turning off double buffering for the view doesn't solve the problem. However,
turning off double buffering for the entire view of the page DOES sove the
problem. However, this will cause the entire page to flicker, but only THAT
page (a possible solution would be for content authors to wrap their plugins on
the Mac in an IFRAME).

So anyway, Kevin is going to make another patch for bug 49743 which will let me
turn off double buffering for the entire page.

Marking as a blocker of 49743
Depends on: 49743
With the newest patch to bug 49743 (turn off double buffering) and the trival
patch here to activate it, it appears that flash is working on the Mac. I still
would like a Flash test suite to verify.

I checked in my fix to the branch and tip.

Flash animation should no longer be mostly gray and more than just the bottom
should appear. New Flash problems should be reported in a seperate bug report.

Marking fixed.
