User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.2) Gecko/20070219 Firefox/2.0.0.2
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.2) Gecko/20070219 Firefox/2.0.0.2
Every time I open a new Firefox window, or refresh any web page in Firefox, I get a pop-up error message: onlookupfailed551 That is exactly as the error is displayed in the pop-up. Each web page refresh will result in a minimum of two "onlookupfailed551" popups, sometimes up to 8 repeats. I have to click ok to acknowledge each individual message before I can continue using the page. This happens to any/all times I use Firefox. I can visit the same pages using IE without this problem. It started when I defragged my hard drive 3 weeks ago. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, upgraded to Firefox 2.0.0.2 and the problem will not go away. Norton Systenworks and System Mechanics 6 did not fix this problem. It only happens on one of my PCs. Firefox works fine on the other PCs in the house.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.open new tab, or
2.refresh open tab
3.
Actual Results:
Epop-up error message: onlookupfailed551 appears in window.
Default theme, no special plugins. This only occurs on one of my PCs (4 total running Mozilla on Win XP)
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox 3 times with no change.

I have the same bug all the time, with pages that are "complex". This bug does not seem to happen on simpler sites like the Firefox "start page". From time to time the error seems to constantly repeat, especially on sites like "ABC.com" causing the browser to crash.
I tried to re-install Firefox (2.0.0.3) to see if that would help, but it did S.F.A. I have tried to disable various extensions and add-ons to see if that makes a difference, but in truth, that was a waste of about 2-3 hours, as it seems to go straight back to something in Firefox causing it.
Truth is that it is getting to be so annoying that I am thinking of stopping my use of Firefox altogether. I don't want to do this, as I have enjoyed Firefox for literally years now, but it is driving me nuts.

The same thing started today. I'm like Rob Ward, I will have to start using IE if this continues but I really would rather Firefox. Can something be done?

The error occurs in Firefox, but not in the same web page on IE - on some pages it can cause the browser to crash, such as http://www.cricinfo.com/ - (rather annoying if you're a cricket lover..!). I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but it hasn't cured it...

I am also having this problem, very frustrating. Is there any solution yet? I just started using Firefox but this is driving me nuts!

I am also having this problem. I love Firefox, but every time I open up a new web page, a box pops up that says, "alert onlookup failed 551" and it's getting to the point where it pops up so much that I've been using Internet Explorer (which I'm not a big fan) and I'm no longer going to use Firefox anymore. I uninstall ed it a million times, downgraded, and tried to restore my computer and nothing works. Safe mode does work, but then then I can't use my extensions that I added on to Firefox anymore. And I know it's not my extensions, that's causing problems, because it works in IE. Any suggestions please????

I have the same problem except now I am unable to press "ok" to cancel the pop up; it remains up and I am unable to gain access to firefox at all. I've resorted to using IE but I want to be able to use firefox. Has anyone figured out what this is and how to fix it? PLEASE HELP!

I have this same problem on one of my machines running Firefox. I have read that if you have McAfee Site Advisor installed, if you turn it off, it will fix the problem; however, I believe it is still a bug.

I have had the same issue with this error message popping up whenever I use Firefox. As previously stated, "Every time I open a new Firefox window, or refresh any web page in Firefox, I get a pop-up error message: onlookupfailed551 That is exactly as the error is displayed in the pop-up. Each web page refresh will result in a minimum of two "onlookupfailed551" popups, sometimes up to 8 repeats. Very annoying!!! I loved using Firefox and really don't want to go back to IE, but can't deal with the error messages all the time! Is there a solution to this problem, yet?

maybe mcafee should release a new versione to fix that problem, has someone contacted their technical support to point out the problem?

Every time I launch Mozilla Firefox, I have to re-enable Tools/Options/Content/Block Pop-up Windows to ensure that I don't get pop-ups that I haven't allowed because every time Firefox shuts down the "Block Pop-up Windows" option gets un-checked.

We're now tracking such bugs. This doesn't mean it's something we can fix, merely something we hope to be able to point vendors to so they can investigate. This is an automated message.
