no children under "Bookmarks" in the left pane of the "Bookmarks Manager" dialog in places.

steps to reproduce:

1) open the bookmarks manager dialog
2) in the left hand pane, click on the twisty for "bookmarks".  There should be children (like "Bookmarks Toolbar
Folder", "Get Bookmark Add-ons", etc) but there are none.

note the children do appear in the right pane.

dietrich thinks this could be a duplicate of bug #373719, but in this case, there's may not be anything in the organizer that resets the view.

I think dietrich is right about this being a dup.  dietrich, if you have the fix for bug #267833 backed out in your tree, can you confirm?

yes, this has the same cause as bug 373719: a regression from bug 267833.

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body   contains   places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
