One consideration, when searching in the URI, if it’s a TLD then I likely don’t want it to count in 

Example:

1. I type "tw", and "tweakers.net" currently appears on top. I wouldn’t want to get a result on the ".tw" domain to show up.

2. I type "nu", and "nu.nl" currently appears on top. I wouldn’t want to get a result on the ".nu" domain to show up.

Not that I visit so many .tw or .nu sites (currently), so for me the sites I want should still make it to the top. But I do think it would improve the suggestion results if matches with the TLD only would give the hit a lower relevance.

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body   contains   places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
