Build Identifier: 2.0.0.0 (20070326)
When moving a mail that has an attachment, by clicking and dragging to a different folder in the folder pane, the message appears to have moved; but when opening said folder, the message is not there. It is also not in the original folder... It is lost, along with the attachment.
This only seems to happen with mails with attachments that are not downloaded (i.e. because you set the maximum mail download size). With attachments that are fully downloaded, it is not a problem.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Receive a mail with an attachment large enough to not be downloaded (i.e. by restricting the maximum mail download size)
2. Drag it from one folder to another
Actual Results:
The mail disappears from both the original and the target folder; I have yet been unable to retrieve any lost mail.
Expected Results:
Expected the mail, with its attachment, to be moved to the target folder.
Haven't tried moving using the menu options, only by dragging.

Have now tried copying and moving with the menu options -- these work fine. Only dragging is the problem.

Work for me on Local Folders and also on IMAP.
Were the folders IMAP Folders or mixed (like IMAP/POP3 - POP3/Local Folders).
Have you tried to reproduce this problem with a new profile ?
Do you use extensions/themes - could you try if this happen also in Safe Mode ? (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_Mode)

I am using local folders with a POP3 account -- only one account; just moving around to file things in the right place. Still happens in safe mode: the moving process happens (you can see the progress bar increment), but then the source is deleted and the target does not appear... Created a new profile and the same thing happened.
FYI: I have a very large inbox. Folders with 5000+ messages in them; although it seems to happen with folders of all sizes. However, the new profile obviously was empty; so I guess that's not relevant.

christopher, before i mark this bug as dupe of 355591 can you try to rebuild the folder index (just go the folder where the mails should be -> right mouse click on the folders name -> properties -> Rebuild index. Does this help ?

Carsten: That does seem to work, although it's a bit inconsistent. When I reindex my folders, the message count increases -- in my very large folders, it does so by a factor of 2. However, when I exit and restart and open said folder, the number resets to 5000-odd... I presume this is an unrelated issue with the reindexation.
Anyway, for mails that are lost, the reindex does work if it's done immediately after the move. However, it doesn't fix the problem indefinitely -- if I move the mail again, it is lost again and another reindex is required... Also, mails that were lost some time ago are not restored by a reindex (presumably this is because a compact has since been run, so the data has been wiped).
