Build Identifier: version 1.5.0.10 (20070221)
it has been reported by moderator on the thunderbird forms of a conflict with nmozMapi32.dll between Thunderbirds updating software and logitech's QuickCam Software (for webcams) .
The issue is, is that if you have the QuickCam software running while trying to update thunderbird, thunderbird will not update saying taht i cannot access nmozMapi32.dll , click ok to restart the software and try again. and his error loops over and over. the only way to exit out is to either close thunderbird.exe from the windows task manager -> Process tab.
or if you already know about the .dll conflict, by closing the QuickCam software.
You WILL NOT be able to uninstall and remove the thunderbird directory with the quickcam software running, the files.
mozMapi32.dll
xpcom_compat.dll
xpcom_core.dll
xpicleanup.exe
xpistub.dll
are all in conflict with the quickcam software and cannot be removed or updated while it is still running.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Leave Logitch QuickCam Software running
2. Load Thunderbird and try to update
3. Watch it fail when it trys to update nmozMapi32.dll , ask too reboot thunderbird. then loop over and over when it fails.
Actual Results:
The error message saying it cannont access nmozmapi32.dll comes up saying to make sure you have access to write to the file, then click okay to restart the update software.
Expected Results:
name changes to the following files :
mozMapi32.dll
xpcom_compat.dll
xpcom_core.dll
xpicleanup.exe
xpistub.dll
due to Logitch conflicts these files cannot be accessed by Thunderbirds updating software, only way would be to change file names so the conflict does not happen.

I have the same problem on WinXP/64 bits with this webcam installed. So confirming the issue too! :) Why is the webcam trying to access Tb files? Or is it "only" a conflict about file names (in which case Windows really sucks about not being to manage files having the same name)?

I've got a new Acer Aspire 5610Z with an Acer OrbiCam. I'm running Vista Home Premium. Same problem, "Error opening file for writing:\r\n\r\nmozMapi32.dll\r\n\r\nClick Retry or \r\nCancel to stop the installation."
Confirmed here on Vista Home Premium and Ultimate.
Using 2.0.05 Pre builds, when the software update is downloaded, it won't install (Vista). I get a software failed error with the "One or more files could not be updated [...] message. No way to get out of it without uninstalling an re-installing.
Then after a debug session, I discovered what the problem was.
I have Logitech's Quickcam software installed. The the QuickCam10.exe file loads during the computer's startup sequence. It then hooks into the mozMapi32.dll file. This is one of the files that the recent TB updates tries to update. It can't. I found that I had to use Process Explorer to kill the Quickam10 process, which then unloads the DLL. Starting TB then allows it to complete the update. But once you restart QC, the cycle will occur again.

I'd like to add that changing the filenames is not going to solve the problem. The reason (I think) that the web software hooks into that DLL is so that it can probably send images via email. Otherwise, I can't think of any reason why it would even need that DLL. So, changing the filename could very well cause it to do the same thing. Especially if TB is your default email program.

I have a similar problem (the "One or more files could not be updated [...] message.)
However, I don't have Thunderbird, and I cannot find any mozMapi32.dll file on my system. The only similarly named files are:
c:\WINDOWS\system32\mapi32.dll
c:\Program\Delade filer\System\Mapi\1033\MAPI32.DLL
c:\Program\Delade filer\System\Mapi\1033\MSMAPI32.DLL
(Delade filer means Shared files)
On the other hand, I have a Creative Livecam, Windows XP Home edition (Swedish), and the problem appears when I'm logged in without administrative rights. At least for FF 2.0.0.6, probably also for 2.0.0.5, and possibly for 2.0.0.4.
