User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3
Build Identifier: version 2.0.0.0 (20070326)

Quick Search (the top left search field in the main window) does not remember the last selected option for a particular folder. I do a lot of searches for the to-address in e-mails that I have sent to people as well as from-addresses in e-mails that have been sent to me.

To do a search for messages I've sent to "example@example.com I would go to the Sent folder, select "To or CC" in Quick Search and type the e-mail address in the search field. When I've found the message, I go back to the Inbox, select "Sender" in Quick Search and then type the e-mail address of the person who have sent me the e-mail.

I would like to eliminate this extra step of selecting which criterion to search for and this could be done if Thunderbird remembered the selected criterion for each folder. If this was the case, by elaborating my example above, when I went back to the Sent folder, "To or CC" would already be selected and I would only have to type the e-mail address to find the message(s) I was looking for.

At the very least, the previous search query in the search box should be persistent, in similar fashion to Firefox. Ultimately, global search of all accounts simultaneously will remove the need to remember search queries on a per account basis.

Since Quick Search turned into Quick Filter this bug is no longer irrelevant. The introduction of the "Pin" (comment 1) and "Filter message by" have mainly solved this issue in a different approach. The "Search all messages..." and associated "Filters" have also made this bug a non-issue. If anybody feels the need for this functionality in Quick Filter, I believe a new bug should be filed.
