Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3 Build Identifier: version 2.0.0.0 (20070326) When I am composing a message that Thunderbird has some character encoding problems with, eventually this dialog will spontaneously pop up: --- *Message Compose* The message you composed contains characters not found in the selected Character Encoding. While you can choose a different Character Encoding, it is usually safe to use Unicode (UTF-8) for mail. If you just send in the current Character Encoding, be aware that those not covered by the current Character Encoding will be turned to question marks and be illegible by the recipient. [Cancel] [Send anyway] [Send in UTF-8] --- The dialog refers to 'sending', but I did not yet choose to send the e-mail, and in fact no action at all is necessary to provoke this dialog. Since it also occurs if I manually try to save a draft of the e-mail, I believe the warning is triggered by Thunderbird's draft auto-save functionality (enabled by default). This is a problem because I did not choose to send the e-mail, and I am afraid of clicking a button that refers to sending it because I am not ready for the e-mail to be sent. In addition, if I do not take any action to dismiss the dialog, several of them invisibly build up in the background, so that (guessing) each time an auto-save is attempted, a new identical warning dialog is queued in the background. The result is that I have to dismiss several identical dialogs. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Compose a message containing characters 'not found in the selected Character Encoding' (whatever that means... usually occurs when I'm replying or forwarding) 2. Wait for several (5?) minutes. --OR-- 1. Compose a message containing characters 'not found in the selected Character Encoding' 2. Save as draft Actual Results: A scary and confusing warning message is presented. Expected Results: A warning dialogue should not spontaneously interrupt my message composition unnecessarily. If a save was manually initiated, then the warning should refer to saving the draft, not sending the message.
