The upgrade ate my current version and gave me an error. XP MC, Quickcam installed.
Used the solution described below.
By the way creating an account to report problems is a royal pita when your email sw is toast, since you need to read the email to get the link to report the problem.

Keep getting the error Error opening file file for writing \r\n\r\nmozMapi32.dll\r\b\r\nClick Retry to try again, or \r\nCancel to stop the installation. Upgrading from Thunderbird 2 RC on Vista
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.accept upgrade
error loops
reboot
same thing
rinse and repeat
try fresh install
see above
create bug account
need link from email
rinse and repeat
give up
use google
