Forexample, Microsoft use F2 as a shortcut to rename bookmarks, a similar
shortcut should allow quick renaming in Moz. This is especially important now
that drag n' drop is implemented from the address bar to the sidebar; to have to
right click, and then bring up a context menu, then a modal dialog is just not
quick enough.
confirming and changing some things
should this be UI or bookmarks?

Summary: Should have a quick way to rename bookmarks → [RFE] quick way to rename bookmarks
This really depends on whether the bookmarks are shown as links or as
click-selectable items.

If they are links (as I think they should be in the sidebar, for example),
opening them is by far the most common operation, and renaming them probably
belongs just in the context menu.

But if they are click-selectable items (as they perhaps would be in the Bookmarks
window itself), clicking on the name could invoke rename mode, as it does in
Windows Explorer and in the Macintosh Finder.

(Jesse: Something UI-related which isn't obviously a bug -- e.g. an RFE, or a
request for change in behavior -- should usually go in UI/DF, and if it's valid
the UI/DF module owner will then reassign it to the relevant component owner.)
Keyboard shortcuts (particularly Microsoft's random F-key assignments) aren't
particularly useful for behaviors such as this. Some form of quick, preferrably
in-place editing is needed, though and I agree with Matthew's assessment of
object vs. link behaviors -- Bookmarks that are selectable with a click should
also be editable in place either after hovering or clicking a second time (but
not a double-click). (Even a shortcut like Return or Enter is a little sketchy
since on Mac it edits, but on Windows it activates.)

this request is ancient and has been a product requirement since the very first Seamonkey bookmarks/UI spec. It has also always
been dependent on a feature of the XP tree widget.

I'm betting that hyatt has a bug that this is either a dupe or will depend on for implenting inline editing.

that handles bookmarks in the manager window. I've got no ideas for editing a link on a toolbar.

I'm upgrading this bug to normal since, like I said, this really is a product requirement.

I don't know that this is actually a dup of bug 19437. Bug 19437 wants a way
to edit the entire bookmark (in a modal window, probably). This bug wants to
be able to rename the bookmark without even opening up a new window.
Reopened bug as per Jesse's comments.

Total Agreement!

this feature is known as inline editing and has always been a product requirement.
