Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.5) Gecko/20070713 ImageShackToolbar/4.2.1 Firefox/2.0.0.5
Build Identifier: 2.0.0.4 (20070604)
I use Thunderbird from limited user accounts which don't have write permissions to the installation directory. Yet thunderbird still attempts to update and reports that it can't. So I installed the version it wanted to upgrade to by hand. It still gave that message, so I started Thunderbird with administrator rights. In the about dialog it said it was version 2.0.0.5. After a while, it asked me to restart so that the upgrade to 2.0.0.4 can be applied. And it applied it. Now I'm back to 2.0.0.4.
Reproducible: Didn't try
Steps to Reproduce:
It's possible that the last time I started Thunderbird as an administrator, it was version 2.0.0.3 and it started to download 2.0.0.4, but I closed it and never accessed it again. I installed 2.0.0.5 over 2.0.0.4 (which I also installed by hand when it came out), but I think it still remembered that it has to download the 2.0.0.4, and did just that: "upgraded" to 2.0.0.4 (from 2.0.0.5).
Expected Results:
The software shouldn't downgrade itself when using the update mechanism, otherwise the term "security update" loses its meaning.
Just drop the older update.
