Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.8.1.6) Gecko/20070725 Firefox/2.0.0.6
Build Identifier: version 2.0.0.6 (20070728)

Tools -> Run Junk Mail Controls on Folder spins the whirligig in the top-right of the window for a couple seconds, but otherwise does nothing.

Junk mail filtering of incoming mail works well though.

I get a lot of spam. Despite Thunderbird's best efforts, some of it gets through. Periodically I work to improve the filtering by marking a hundred or so messages as junk, then running the junk mail controls. With previous versions of Thunderbird, this would move some messages to the junk folder, but with 2.0.0.6 it does not.

I can't be certain whether my efforts to train the filtering on 2.0.0.6 are not taking effect, or if they are but the filter just doesn't run.

While I have your attention - can you tell me whether the filters are specific to each email account, or if training the filter in one account will improve the filter for other accounts? I'm under the impression that the filter rules are per-account. I have five email accounts, and I always seem to have to train each account individually when some new kind of spam shows up.

If you think this is actually a bug, I'll file a report about it.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Mark a few dozen mail messages as junk.
2. Select Tools -> Run Junk Mail Controls on Folder

Actual Results:
The whirligig on the top-right of the window spings for a second, then stops.

Expected Results:
The whirligig would spin for a long time, some messages would be marked as junk and then the junk mail would be moved to the junk folder.

I'm running Mac OS X 10.4.9 Intel on a 1.83 GHz Core Duo (not Core 2 Duo) 15" MacBook Pro.

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Junk_Mail_Controls has some info. training data is for all accounts in the profile. But the messages you train it on in one account might of course not be enough to properly filter messages in another account, you should train all accounts

does your junk mail folder have the special icon, or does it show just a standard file folder?
This should be fixed by the recent patch for bug 324953.
