We need an icon for Tabsposé.
Summary: Need icon for tabsposé → Need toolbar icon for tabsposé
Target Milestone: --- → Camino2.0
I was thinking some sort of grid view inside the "window" icon (View Source, Fill Form, Downloads).
It would be really nice if we had an icon for this before wider testing in b1. I don't think we'll block on this, but nominating to raise profile.
Flags: camino2.0b1?
Anyone working on it ? Otherwise I'll give it a try over the WE or so.
Please do Philippe - I just can't get the time to attend to this

Something like this ? Smokey, is that something you had in mind ? I tried to add some 'content' to the 4 small rectangles, but that quickly looked cluttered. I put the 'viewsource' icon on the toolbar as a comparison - I used that one as a base for the window (to take those 'in context' screenshots, I had to rename the icon to one of the existing ones.)

An idea with 'fill' in the 4 rectangles. At small size, that looks quite cluttered.

The real icon - now with sharp 'small icon'.

I'm not sure we really want to have the window chrome; it takes up a bunch of space without communicating much. Both the View Source and Downloads buttons actually open windows, so I think it works better for them (I know we also use it for Fill Form, but I'm not wild about it there either). What about something closer to the Spaces icon; a darker background to make the squares show up better, and no title bar?
(That said, if we do want to go with window chrome, I like this icon... maybe a touch darker on the box outlines though?)

(In reply to comment #11) > (That said, if we do want to go with window chrome, I like this icon... maybe a > touch darker on the box outlines though?) Yeah, thanks for confirming it wasn't my eyes :-) (It looked good in P'shop...) v.92 should be better in this. (In reply to comment #10) Hmm, but Tabsposé does kinda overwrite the whole window. That said, I'll have a look at some kind of Spaces icon
Bookmarks and History take over the content area too, just as much as View Source does--and Fill Form doesn't. We don't currently use the window look for icons in a consistent enough way to actually communicate anything with it.
Fill Form is obviously performing an action within that window ;) and Bookmarks and History have better metaphors that don't require showing their "view". That said, I'm certainly open to looking at chromeless variants. I'm not sure how something darker will look, though, and we don't want to be playing mix-and-match (although I understand that's much in vogue these days), so there's a fine line we have to walk ;)
I'd be fine going forward with 0.92 now so we can get the toolbar button landed and working.

2*2 variants on a 'Spaces' icon. WIP. The darker variant(s) is probably a bit too dark. (I kinda like the left most one)

For testing purposes, here are those 4 'spaces' icons. Usage: rename them to one of the existing icons (I used page/text bigger/smaller) and replace.
I like the lighter one with the 'content' personally, but I'm curious what these look like on 10.4's lighter toolbar :/ The auto-scaled smaller versions here look better than I expected; I think with a custom-tweaked 24x24px version (and perhaps some tweaking of the 'content'), the colored dots can work. The darker versions do seem too dark to me, especially at the smaller size, though the 'blank' version is not quite as bad as the 'content' version.
(In reply to comment #18) > The auto-scaled smaller versions here look better than I expected; I think with > a custom-tweaked 24x24px version (and perhaps some tweaking of the 'content'), > the colored dots can work. Yeah, a 24*24 version will be needed, didn't have time to work on that yet. > (and perhaps some tweaking of the 'content') Suggestions always welcome :-) ref. 10.4, based on my fake 10.4 toolbar in P'shop, the lighter version works OK. I used to have a screenshot of the Cm toolbar with only the 4 navigation icons on i, no location bar, or anything else. I misplaced it somewhere, unfortunately.

WIP. > The darker variant(s) is probably a bit too dark. > > (I kinda like the left most one) I like the icons that do not have any content in them. The other ones just appear too busy for my liking. The other problem that comes up without having any content in them is that next to a colorful icon like Stop or Refresh, the Spaces-esq icon seems to fade in with the toolbar. You might want to also put a small circular (or rectangular) shadow at the bottom of the icon, like how most of the other icons do it.
I like the lighter spaces one with content. That said, I think we should tone down the content a little -- maybe less saturation or maybe no saturation at all. Showing content in the area makes it more obvious what will happen when you push the button. I don't think a window metaphor is right here. The "fill form" button actually seems wrong after reading comment 13. View Source made sense when it was always a window, imo.
Ok, the 'lighter spaces' version sounds more popular. I'll work on that, an empty version and a toned-down content-rich one.
Attached file icon-v2
Updated version(s) of the icon - 32*32 and 24*24 - less colour saturation for the 'contents' one - slightly darker top border

Based on a screenshot of the Tiger toolbar (with thanks to user Macskeeball for the screenshot).
I definitely like the desaturated content.
Attached image small size
I definitely like the desaturated content; at the default (large) size, it's superior, no contest. At the small size it's not quite as clear a victory, but I still think the content version is good. (Maybe it's that the no-content one reminds me of all the bugs where we weren't drawing content into the previews?)
Comment on attachment 349350 [details] icon-v2 Landed the with-content version on CVS trunk (resources/images/toolbar/tabOverview.tiff), since there seems to be consensus on that. If anyone objects, we can always iterate later. Thanks for all your work on this!
