But Firefox/Thunderbird french dictionaries underline this word and propose (in context menu) the incorrect spelling "évènements". It is a known case in french where the way the word is pronounced is not the way it is written. French paper dictionaries confirm that my spelling is the right one. As one may think, the derived forms are mispelled too : "événement" must replace "évènement", and so it goes with the derived adjective "événementiel" instead of the wrong "évènementiel". Thank you for correcting this typo's in the dictionary ! Michel Nolard Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. type "événements" using the french dictionary in your spelling options 2. right click on the underlined word 3. prove that the proposed spelling "évènements" is wrong using a dictionary Expected Results: Not in the dictionary but must be added : événements événement événementiel événementiels événementielle événementielles In the dictionary but mustn't (i.e. to be removed !) : évènement évènements évènementiel évènementiels évènementielle évènementielles

The report is wrong on several points, but there is indeed an issue with our dictionary. Let me explain: The French language was reformed in 1990 to spell several words more accurately, and "évènement" is one of those new spellings. You can already find "évènement" in several paper dictionaries (Robert or Larousse). See http://www.orthographe-recommandee.info/ for more information. It is however wrong to underline the older spelling, which remains perfectly valid. We have another spelling dictionary ("fr-FR" on the download page) which is also wrong but in the reverse: it only contains the old spellings. You can use that one as a workaround while we're trying to find a way to merge the two works. Nitpick: the "événement" spelling was actually a mistake introduced in a previous reform at the beginning of the XXe century, while one could find "évènement" in earlier sources.

Bug 408419 will solve this issue as the new dictionary will contain both classical spelling and 1990 reform spelling. Adding dependency.
This is fixed in both 2.0.0.12 and Firefox 3 trunk. Don't forget to disable/uninstall any old dictionary extension after installing the new version.
