FireFox hangs the first time it is started after a system boot. A forum message said to run FireFox in Windows 98 compatibility mode. This fixed the problem. However, it introduced a new problem which is Adobe Reader 8.1 crashes FireFox each time FireFox tries to read in a PDF file.

This, to me is problem enough to stop using FireFox. Do you have a fix for it?

Thanks,
Bob Thawley

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.
Robert, there seem to be two separate problems here:

* With Windows 98 compatibility mode off, Firefox hangs the first time it is started after a system boot.

* With Windows 98 compatibility mode on, viewing a PDF file crashes.

Are you still experiencing either of them in Firefox 3.5?
Whiteboard: [needs retesting on WinXP]
This bug was reported on Firefox 2.x or older, which is no longer supported and will not be receiving any more updates. I strongly suggest that you update to Firefox 3.6.3 or later, update your plugins (flash, adobe, etc.), and retest in a new profile. If you still see the issue with the updated Firefox, please post here. Also, give a stacktrace. Otherwise, please close as RESOLVED > WORKSFORME

the "crash on pdf" problem persists in 3.6.3 (under XP, didn't observe it when running Firefox/PDF on Windows 7 so far), it's now even worse than ever, because I'm out of workarounds. Any chance you team up with Adobe to get rid of this?
what version of reader do you have, and do you have a stacktrace?
Version: 2.0 Branch → 3.6 Branch
Plugin version: 9.3.2.163;
Reader 9.3.2, Acrobat 9 Standard 9.3.2
I don't know how to create the stacktrace, but I'm willing to create one (pointer to instructions needed) [I said "yes" serval times in the crash window]
link in comment 2 gives instructions on how to obtain a stacktrace.
This is the status of the crash dialog.
not a stack-trace, but better than nothing I guess

Closing old bugs in the Plugins component. We aren't going to track issues in 3rd-party plugins in the Mozilla bug tracker. In addition, support for NPAPI plugins will be removed at the end of this year; for more details see the post at https://blog.mozilla.org/futurereleases/2015/10/08/npapi-plugins-in-firefox/

If there is a serious bug in Firefox, it needs to be filed in the "Core" product, "Plug-Ins" component.
