I can no longer play online jigsaw puzzles as the new update seems to have blocked Java applets. I have updated to Java6 and it is enabled in 'Tools'. I run Vista Home Basic. We have a second laptop and the problem has been replicated on this machine.
I ran system restore and Firefox then ran correctly but unfortunately although I have unticked automatic updates, it is still insisting on updating. I prefer not to update until the problem is sorted. How may I stop it please?

The update should allow the loading of Java and applets. This is enabled in 'Tools' within the browser. It has nothing to do with firewall because Java works OK on IE7.
