Details

Currently, we only allow reminders for tasks that have a start date, possibly for such that have a due date. We should allow setting absolute reminders on tasks. This requires some UI changes to only allow absolute times instead of "xxx minutes before" type reminders for such tasks that don't have entry or due dates.
Hello everybody. I need this feature, since it makes Sunbird / Lightning more compatible to Outlook and Poket Outlook. There is a absolute date for alarm a daily used thing.

only request flags, don't set them. that's for drivers. And copying features from other apps is not a compelling enough reason to take something.

Thx for you advice with the flags. I dont want a copy of a feature in other apps. But there are some people that would like to sync events from Outlook to Sunbird / Lightning. Scenario: On work, i MUST use Outlook for mail, events and todos. on my phone i have windows mobile installed. i can sync the data between this very easy. via FinchSync, i can sync my phone with Sunbird / Lightning. At home i dont use Windows, i use Linux, so it is very important, to use this feature. The only thing, what breaks the whole compatibility, is this thing with the absolute date vor alarms. in the RFC for iCal this is a standard, in Outlook, this is a standard, why is it not possible in Sunbird ? In Lightning 0.8pre there is also a grayed out field for a absolute date, but i cant use it. because the absolute date for alarms are described in the RFC's for iCal, it would be a good idea, to use it also in Sunbird.
Setting wanted0.8- as the main Calendar developers will not devote any time to this in the 0.8 timeframe. Patches are, of course, always welcome.

Philipp, does your enhancement request applies for events too? In that case Bug 408184 can be resolved as a duplicate of this bug.
This is taken care of in the multiple alarms patch.
