spun off from pierre's comments in bug 34525. essentially, when a font info is
changed, the browser won't render it (even though the changes are written out to
prefs.js). not a problem on linux or windows; mac only.

to repro:
1. open Preferences dialog and select the Fonts category.
2. change any of the items from the Serif, Sans Serif or Monospace menulists.
3. click OK to save changes and dismiss Preferences.

results: the font style remains unchanged. even after relaunching the browser.
