Instead of Thunderbird opens a new window for Write, Replay, Reply All, and Forward, I would like to suggest a "Single Window Mode" option.

When selected, and e.g. clicking Reply the editor is opened in the message pane. See mock ups.

I think Bryan (our User experience) had some designs along these lines, though I could be wrong, and I can't find them at the moment.

Not blocking, I have designs that use the Thundertab concepts.  I'm not sure if these mockups intended to use that or not.
