User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.8.1.9) Gecko/20071025 Firefox/2.0.0.9 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.8.1.9) Gecko/20071025 Firefox/2.0.0.9 hi, on mac osx leopard (using firefox 2.0.0.9), sites with arabic diacritics are not showing the arabic diacritics. if you try to load the test url (http://cafesalam.net/test.php) in firefox and in safari, you'll notice that safari renders the diacritics whereas firefox doesn't. note that the same url renders properly in the same version of firefox on linux and rendered properly under tiger if i recall properly. also, some of the arabic characters are getting replaced with a ?, and this is only after the upgrade to leopard. also, this also happens in camino, flock, etc. thanks! Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. visit any website which contains arabic diacritics. 2. note that the diacritics don't show up. 3. visit the same site in safari and notice that they do show up. Actual Results: the diacritics show up in safari but not in firefox (even though they used to before the upgrade to leopard). Expected Results: the diacritics should show up. i am guessing the rendering api has changed between tiger and leopard.
I can confirm this happens in Leopard but not in Tiger. It also does not happen in FF3. I dont think it is anything to do with an API change but perhaps a regression issue in Leopard.
There are several bugs that might be related : bug 401803, bug 402671, bug 404206 ... In bug 401371 comment 6 it was mentioned that it might be related to the 'Microsoft C fonts'.
This issue happens with the Apple Geeza Pro font so this is not related to different fonts between Leopard and Tiger.
Can you please check the latest nightly build - the test page that you posted looks fine to me using Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.8.1.10pre) Gecko/2007112006 BonEcho/2.0.0.10pre. I compared Safari, latest FF 3 trunk build, and latest Bon Echo build and they all look the same to me.
Summary: rendering of arabic diacritics broken under leopard → [10.5] rendering of arabic diacritics broken under leopard
on beta2, diacritics and everything else render properly on some pages, but on other pages, shaping/joining of characters are broken (ex iphoneislam.com, facebook profile pages, etc).
(In reply to comment #5) > on beta2, diacritics and everything else render properly on some pages, but on > other pages, shaping/joining of characters are broken (ex iphoneislam.com, > facebook profile pages, etc). The above is likely bug 361986. I can't reproduce missing harakat (comment 0) anywhere I've tried with MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH builds, though (and the URL in the URL field is 404). Moving this to Gfx:Mac since it (comment 0) was filed against the 1_8 branch.

We won't fix this on the 1.8-branch. If you see it with Firefox 3.0.x or later (or a Camino 2.0 nightly), please file a new bug. WONTFIX.

this is no longer an issue - it's been working in ff3 etc. i think it was fixed sometime after beta 2.
