could be caused by a bad dateAdded, could be Bug 393498

I'm seeing this right now, both "Recenty Visited Starred Pages" and "Most Visited Starred Pages" are showing the same two bookmarks (in different orders), neither of which I have visited very much or recently.
Visiting new bookmarks does not change things. These queries used to work ok.

I've taken a copy of places.sqlite so if someone needs to grab it for debugging let me know.

dave, does it appear that bookmarks in your personal toolbar folder are no longer showing up in those queries?

I think that this is related to bug #404871, but will wait for mossop to confirm if it looks related to the fact that we're excluding his personal toolbar from the searches.

Ah yes indeed that does appear to be the case. Visiting bookmarks from outside the toolbar does add them to those queries. I just have practically none outside of my toolbar.

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".
In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.
Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
