User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9b2) Gecko/2007121016 Firefox/3.0b2 Build Identifier: If Thunderbird can use Google as a back-end provider, why not Evolution? The fact that it has an open API and is entirely open-source should make it a first class provider. An Evolution Data Server provider would give the user more application choice while maintaining a common storage mechanism in Gnome, Maemo, and other environments. Calendaring should be simplest point at which to start. Appropriate bugs would have to be filed with Thunderbird for mail storage and contact management. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Try to access the evolution data server back-end through the calendering interface. Actual Results: It can not be done currently! Expected Results: A user should be able to see the same calendar in Evolution and Sunbird/Lightning when the evolution-data-server provider is used.

I just noticed that Bug 408158 filed against Thunderbird also requests eds support. I don't think this bug (against Calendar) is a duplicate. Read-only calendar support is possible through a work-around: Add a Remote Calendar using the URI: file:///home/[username]/.evolution/[path_to_ics_file] For example: 'file:///home/mjohansson/.evolution/exchange/mjohansson@spam+domain.com/personal/subfolders/Calendar/subfolders/My Calendar/cache.ics' 'file:///home/mjohansson/.evolution/calendar/local/system/calendar.ics' I've only attempted either of these in read-only mode (which can only be set in the properties after creating the remote calendar).

Sounds like a good idea, however extension fodder.

Summary: create a eds (evolution-data-server) provider → create a eds (evolution-data-server) provider [extension fodder]
Would be nice to see Thunderbird save to both Google Calendar and provide this via EDS. Then GNOME's clock would show me the tasks and event ^^ .

I'm not sure I'll be able to make the transition from Evolution to Thunderbird/Lightning without the clock applet integration. I'll be trying the workaround but it would be nice if this was automatic or easily configurable.

Extension (at least one way) exists, closing WONTFIX since we didn't fix this in core code. I've tried the extension and it works quite good :-) https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/9656
