Clicking on the star for the first time should produce a notification stating that the page is bookmarked, in the same style as the larger contextual dialog. Mockup available at: http://people.mozilla.com/~faaborg/files/granParadisoUI/places_NewBookmarkDialog_i9.png
Fixed in bug 393509.

ack, I totally misunderstood the mockup or this. This total defeats the whole point of the "Star" to be able to single click add a bookmark. My expectation here was that we'd put up a notification "message" to let the user know that they just added a bookmark. Not a dialog which. I think the notification "message" should be just that, a message describing what just happened. Have the message fade out after 5 seconds. Oh and perhaps have a check box to "Don't show this message again"
I understand this was "by design" but I think it's a regression of the original intention of the "Star", one click bookmarking method. reopening to request rework of this notification.

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h". In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows: Tools | Message Filters Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New" Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h Change the action to "Delete Message". Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top. Click OK. Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter. Gerv
