Many people use Thunderbird already and one reason for this is that it is slim. They only check mails and sometimes let it in run in background, but don't need Calendar functionality. So please, make the Calendar optional. The best would be separate installers. An installer with a checkbox for installing Calendar is also a possibility.

Ok, from http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.dev.apps.thunderbird/browse_thread/thread/5d412c95e2f04a73#e2c7a548b0e2e21b "[...] * Release-defining features: - an integrated calendaring feature, based on Lightning [...]"

This can't possibly be blocking tb3 as we don't even know the deal with shipping bundled lightning at all yet. And this bug wouldn't impact on it being optional or not in any way. (Probably it will though.) I'm marking this INVALID for now. If it turns out we don't make it optional for tb3, feel free to file a new RFE for tb4, but there is no point keeping this open at this point.
