See Bug 398702 for the same issue but maybe a different cause.

I checked this issue again with the latest lightning build 20080206 and it's not possible for me to reproduce this issue -> changing resolution to WFM.

Flags: blocking-calendar0.8?
I am experiencing the same bug here. I have screen shots to prove it. After installing the Lightening 0.8 Add-On to Thunderbird 2.0.0.14, the 'File', 'Edit' and 'View' entries are not visible in any opened emails (regardless of the author), but are present in newly created emails I am writing.
It also messed with the keyboard shortcuts. Pressing CTRL-C or CTRL-A or CTRL-V causes the email currently open to be sent to the trash folder.
showing the error in the menu bar after Lightening 0.8 Add-On installed in Thunderbird 2.0.0.14 (20080421).
Bug 398702 isn't the cause in this case, because I don't have any Buttons extensions installed.
Removing the Lightening 0.8 Add-On resolved the matter, but that's not a "Fix".
