Hi all: Just giving you a heads up that we'll need to create the Firefox 3 cd like we did for Firefox 2. We should aim to get this CD ready to be reproduced a week or so after the launch so it can end up on the store about 2 - 3 weeks after Firefox 3 rolls out. Let me know if there are any special QA or build request forms that I should fill out. The CD typically contains the Mac, PC (I believe the auto installer) and Linux versions, the licensing doc and a plain read me doc. Rhelmer was most helpful on this last year :) Thanks and let me know next steps!

Can we create a livecd-alike Firefox CD? People can just load this CD and try Firefox without install any program, like Portable Firefox. The portable version could be start up instantly, and the homepage lists Firefox's features with some screencast videos, to show them the difference.

Hi there I've been working on the CD cover and label design. To complete the installation instructions, I needed to know the binary name. For Firefox 2, it was "Run FirefoxSetup 2.0.0.1.exe". I made an assumption that for Firefox 3, it will be "Run FirefoxSetup 3.0.exe" Please let me know if this is correct, or what the correct name is, so I can pass that on to the designers. Thanks! ~T

Thanks Ben. The Firefox 3 CD cover and label Design are now done. Design looks great and is based on the new website art. It includes some helpful tips, as well as installation info. All we need now is Firefox 3 :) so we can get that burned on the CD and get everything produced. ~T

I put a copy of what we did for Fx 2.0.0.1 up at http://people.mozilla.org/~nthomas/misc/firefox-2.0.0.1.iso so you can see what the current scripts produce. If you're using a Mac then Finder can mount the image (just open the iso) and you can browse the contents. Some questions/notes: * We'd need to update README.txt. Or perhaps it's superseded by new content ? * Do we want to include more locales than just en-US ? At the moment we autorun the en-US installer, which wouldn't work so well for multiple locales. Is the CD going to offered at both stores ? * We should update the firefox.ico used for autorun/autorun.ico to the current file (rather than the one from the Firefox 1.5!) * The windows installer is FirefoxSetup2.0.0.1.exe, possibly because autorun doesn't like spaces in the filename (need to prove/disprove this)

The CD will be sold in both Stores. But we were not planning on creating localized versions (the CD case and label both have copy in English only). So a separate build is not necessary. I believe this was the case for the Firefox 2 CD as well, so we'd like to follow the same process. Thanks.

Right -- we only did an en-us build. Tara: Here is the info for the printer: Visual Impressions Printing 116 East 25th Avenue, Suite G San Mateo, CA 94403 650-358-0229 scot@v-i-printing.com

From offline email: > a) when you need this by? a.) I would prefer to have the content as soon as possible, especially since Firefox 3 is out and I'm sure our CD fans are eager to get their hands on this. > b) we have all the locales anyway, and we have the room on the CD, should we put locales on CD also, maybe in sub dirs? Or do we want to keep the CD to be en-US only? b.) I think it would be great to have all the locals on the CD if its not much extra trouble. My only hesitation is if that would in any way effect the copy on the CD cover... I've put the printing on hold for now till I figure this out. > c) what o.s. do you want on this? win32? mac? linux? Will talk it over with Slater and get back to you asap regarding questions b and c.

Thanks for updating the Bug John. I have answers to b and c: b.) Lets include all the other Locales on the CD in sub dirs, but have it auto install en-US. This will allow us to keep the copy on the CD label and sleeve as is. If anyone happens to inquire into additional locales, we'll direct them to the sub folders. c.) Please include all o.s. Installation instructions include Windows 98/2000/XP , Vista and Mac. But we'd like Linux on the CD as well. Let me know if I can help answer any additional questions. I look forward to getting the content and wrapping up the CD..! Thanks ~T

The only (minor) difference from the directions is that the executable for Windows is called "FirefoxSetup3.0.exe" with no spaces. This is the same as the Firefox 2 CD and so let's remember this for the next time. Other than that, it's all good.

Thanks for the clarification - and I'm glad that we're still okay. I think I had it with no spaces at first then simply copied the name from Comment #7. My mistake. Will remember it going forward, Thank you!

We've come across another inconsistency with the directions - the mock up gives directions for installing on Windows 98 and Firefox 3 does not support Windows 98. Hopefully the printing can be stopped in time. Also - to put the locales on the disc would take approx 1.6 GB so we are not doing locales for this disk. It should be noted however that if we ever wanted to do a disk per platform, that would be possible.

CD master handed off. Changes made to instructions to remove Windows 98, spaces from the name of the executable and to add (10.4 or higher) to the Mac OS instructions so that people with a lower version are not frustrated if they attempt to install. Closing.

Mostly just version number changes, all the README.TXT and then the linux package is now .bz2 instead of a .gz

Comment on attachment 326962 [details] [diff] [review] Changes to cdmaker for Firefox 3 CD Just noticed that README.txt and autorun.inf are using unix style line endings. I don't think the autorun will work on windows, and README.txt won't render properly in notepad

Reopening until we get a sample back from the production company, and we test it all works as expected.
