As far as I know the alert service gets completely exchanged with dbus notifications when bug 404738 is fixed. IMO it's a dupe.

O rly? Do not close this bug. If changes will be made to the Firefox app, then this but cannot be marked as dupe. If Firefox will be untouched, this is a dupe.
This is a dupe, the notification backend is in toolkit and isn't app-specific.
