When a page containing an applet is printed the applet takes up much more space than it does on the screen, and the other things on the page are not adjusted to accomidate that space. The applet ends up overlaying other portions of the page when printed.

Reporter: printing of applets works?
I assume this last bit is a question to me? In which case the answer is yes, I had applets printing, but they took up more space on the page than on the screen and did not adjust the position of anything else on the page at the time, they would just extend over the top of the other things around them on the page.
The patch in bug 27478 should fix this.

Eric, can you verify this fix in latest build and mark verified? thanks.
Eric, Peter, or someone on the cc: list, can you please verify this bug and mark verified-fixed ? thanks.
Just tried this in 11/9 windows trunk build. this is still not fixed. Here are the steps I performed: 1) launch netscape 2) jump to URL http://java.sun.com 3) see applet in upper right corner 4) print 5) get output and compare to screen notice that the applet is shifted below and overlaps the text in the table below it. Also it is cut off partially to the right. Definitely not fixed. REOPEN

Now the applet does not even print out! I used the 2/7 trunk build on Windows. I tried both cases: http://jave.sun.com http://peoplestage.netscape.com/sujay/java2.html In both cases, the applet renders in the browser, but when you Print, applet does not print out.

Hm....works in my debug pull from last week but I do see the problem in today's build. Rod/Don any recent checkins to printing that may have cause this?
My only changes were to the print settings dialog.
WFM in today's build 20020211. Both applets print out fine, in the right location along with testcase.

REOPEN. I just installed 2/11 trunk build on Win 98 and printed both URLs. I don't see any applet printed out. Peter, feel free to come by my cube and I will demonstrate this to you.. I am expecting the applet(a snapshot) to be printed out along with the other content on the screen. I get a blank area printed out where the applet is supposed to be. Thus I feel this is not fixed.

worksforme on 0208 trunk on win98. used this testcase->applet prints: http://peoplestage.netscape.com/sujay/java2.html
Terri and I both have 1.3.1_01 version of NPOJI600.dll and for both of us this doesn't work.
It prints fine with jre 1.31.on windows 98, but not with jre 1.4.0-rc (this version downloads from http://www.java.sun.com)
Just did a full install of today commercial Netscape build. I only have one copy of JRE 1.3.1 installed. Printing testcase looks correct on W2K. I'm not sure what's up with this bug. Maybe the content is changing?
Target Milestone: mozilla0.9.9 → mozilla1.0.1
Oops, I forgot to mention the version of the build. Anyway, it printed fine on windows 98 with jre 1.31 (commercial netscape build: 2002-02-08-07-trunk). However, it failed to print on windows 98 with jre 1.4.0-rc (commercial netscape build: 2002-02-12-06-trunk)
also it fails for both Terri and I who have version 1.3.1_01 SO maybe we should update the installer to include 1.3.1 ?
Same result as Peter with build 2002021203 on w2k with Java Plug-in 1.3.1 for Netscape Navigator (DLL Helper), prints just fine
With JRE 1.4, I get an error in the Java console: java.lang.InternalError: unimplemented at sun.awt.windows.WEmbeddedFrame.print(WEmbeddedFrame.java:40)

Joe: Try 1.4.1, the AWT and java 2D team has put back some fix for this bug.
Installed the JRE 1.4.1 beta. Using Mozilla 1.0 with Windows 2000. Java applets in web pages do print! Better than they did years ago when Netscape pioneered Java support. Fonts are the right sizes! Assuming the final release of JRE 1.4.1 has the same fix, this bug is resolved, at least for me. Thanks, Sun!
can we mark this bug resolved per last comments?
Let's wait until 1.4.1 is fully released, then test it again.

Mozilla 2002120608/Linux-i686 JDK 1.4.1_01 No applets are printed at all. Changing OS to ALL.
OS: Windows NT → All
I propose that this be closed: Wontfix. JRE 1.4.2 is (I believe) the minimum required JRE version.
