Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.12) Gecko/20080201 Firefox/2.0.0.12 Build Identifier: version 2.0.0.9 (20071031) I use Thunderbird with imap, and usually set folders for offline use. Sometimes I get e-mails with fairly large attachments (> 1 Mbyte) that require some time to download from the network. If something goes wrong with the network connection, I'm left with the e-mail message in the Inbox folder, which shows the attachment, which is however only partially downloaded, and therefore corrupt. Unfortunately, there is no way to force a complete re-download of the attachment, even if I right click on it and select, e.g., Save As. Currently the only way to solve the problem is download the attachment using a webmail client. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Set imap account folder for offline use over 2. Get mail with large attachment over slow network 3. Stop the download process 4. Open the attachment Actual Results: The attachment is incomplete. Expected Results: The attachment should be complete.
Bug 405440 is similar report to your problem, which looks to occur even after fix of Bug 386514(verified1.8.1.5). Opener of Bug 405440 said similar problem to Bug 384819 and duped to Bug 384819, but no response(no log is provided yet) from reporter of Bug 384819 then Bug 384819 is still open. Get IMAP protocol log(see Bug 384819 Comment #4), and check real protocol level flow first to see what happens on connection error during download. For manual recovery : Read bugs pointed in above paragraph, please.
Oh, sorry, Bug 405440 was FIXED bug(fixed1.8.1.12). Sorry for my confusion. Because your case is problem after fix of Bug 386514 and problem when off-line use, I think your problem is DUP of Bug 405440. Can you re-produce problem with Tb 2.0.0.12 candidates? (currently rc1) > http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/2.0.0.12-candidates/
Since we haven't heard back in six months, and it looks like it's a dup, I'm going to mark it as such.
