After a hard reset of my computer whilest I had a trunk build running, the back forward buttons disappeared from the navigation bar. Once I'd located them and dragged them back to the navigation bar, they no longer noticed the loading of new pages (the back button failed to light up). On going back by hitting the backspace key, the forward button did light up, and then once I hit the forward button the back button did light up. Bit quirky though, and I'm not sure how many users will know how to find and reinstate the Back/Forward buttons after crashing.

I'm not sure how many average users know they can hit the backspace key to go back either.

The failure of the Back/Forward buttons to notice history changes seems reproducable. Simply remove them from the navigation bar, then restart Firefox. Now add them back and load a new page or two.

If back was enabled and stays enabled, the button won't be updated, because that's how the |observes| element works.

Did you use a trunk build all the time or possibly also Firefox 2?

I had both Firefox 2 and beta 3 open (using separate profiles of course).

I'm only interested in the profile with the missing buttons, because that would be bug 417421.

Oh, you mean did I use Firefox 2 and 3 with the same profile? No. I happen to have created that profile a week or so ago, and only used it for nightly/the beta builds.

Did you customize your toolbars before the reset? Is that bug reproducible? If so, a copy of your localstore.rdf (when broken) might be useful.

I've had a problem w/ missing forward/back buttons since beta 2. Its different with beta 5, though, in that the customize toolbar window does not have a combined fwd/bck button, as b5 was like when installed. i now only have a separate fwd and bkwd button like older ffox. using vista 32bit home premium.
1st post doing this, so sorry if not helpful...
