I finally got around to looking at updating my "Chromatabs" extension [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3810] for trunk, and immediately ran into a problem...
The images in the default OS X theme used to build the tabs don't use any transparency. The area that should be the tabstrip background is actually just a solid color. So, when chromatabs colors the tab images the pixels over the background area get colorized too. Conversely, if something altered the color of the tab strip, it wouldn't change behind tabs.
