On Linux, IMAP folders that start with the underscore (and maybe other characters) are sorted at the bottom, while on Windows they are sorted to be at the top. I switch between platforms daily and I'd like them to be sorted the same way. (I hope this isn't too much of a religious issue!)
The sort order is determined by the locale settings. On Windows, this seems to default to "C", but on Linux it uses the regional definitions. You can control the collation order by setting the LC_COLLATE environment variable before launching Thunderbird.
Is there a way to control this on the Mac? It seems that you have to be a real power user in order to make the sort order look the same on all your platforms. One of the reasons I like to use TB on all platforms is that I get the same product. I don't have to use Mail.app just for the Mac, for example. Also, I note that on my Mac, the Sent folder is sorted as a regular folder, grouped with other folders starting with the letter "S". I don't have my PC with me right now, but aren't the "special" IMAP folders grouped at the top on Windows?
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1a2pre) Gecko/20080822030025 Shredder/3.0b1pre Aha. Once I manually selected sent mail to be stored in the Sent folder, and restarted, it got promoted to the top of the list. But I'm still wondering about normal IMAP folder sort order.
Nikolay or Nir, can you illuminate on "normal IMAP folder sort order."?
